March 28th

Here is an update as of Saturday, March 28th at 10am:

Please note:  events are changing fast so this information is subject to change at any time; please check this parish website for updates daily.  Please pass on the word that information from St. Anne Parish is being published on this, our parish website.  It is the most effective way to reach the most people on a frequent basis.  We are trying our best to get information out to our parishioners.

Today is Saturday, March 28th.  Yesterday I was on a conference call with other priests with Bishop Mitchell Rozanski.  He had further guidance for the parish which I will relate.  Please keep the bishop in your prayers as he has huge responsibilities and making these decisions are not easy.

The update below is implemented taking the protection and safety of parishioners, hospital workers, and the general public into account, as well as maintaining the direction of civil authorities.

  • Effective today, the Bishop has temporarily suspended the Anointing of the Sick in all instances.  In some instances, the hospitals have already implemented this policy.  If someone gets sick, please let us know at the parish office and myself and Fr. Dennis can certainly go the church and pray for that person.  If there is no answer on the phone follow the phone directions and press “2” to connect you to the answering service and they will find one of us.
  • The Chrism Mass, typically celebrated on Monday of Holy week at the Cathedral is postponed.
  • In light of the Governor’s latest restrictions, the diocese has indicated that it is not possible to hand out blessed Palms on Palm Sunday.  So, there will be no distribution of palms on that day.  We will hold on to them for when we resume public Masses.  They will be distributed at a later date.
  • All liturgies for Holy Week and the Triduum:  Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil, are cancelled.  However, the Chalice of Salvation will televise these liturgies on Channel 22 WWLP.  Dates and times for these televised liturgies are specified in the bishop’s letter below.
  • Easter Sunday Mass will be televised on the Chalice of Salvation at 10am on Easter morning April 12th.  That is the regular time for the televised Sunday Mass.  There is a possibility of having Easter Mass but we will update you in future notices on the website.  Let us pray that will happen, but we will have to wait and see.
  • Finally, here is a message from Bishop Mitchell Rozanski on this Saturday morning:

A Letter from Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski:

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

What times we live in!  It appears that none will be exempt from the impact of the Covid-19 virus.  The numbers of infections that we hear of each day, the more and more drastic steps that have to be undertaken and the various ways in which our lives have been impacted remind us that although we live in the 21st century, there is still much we cannot overcome merely through our trust in science and technology.  It is at this point, we realize the importance of our faith.

In the midst of our isolation we know that we are never alone---God fulfills His promise to be with us always, through all trials even to the end of time.  Let us remember in prayer all who have been infected by this terrible virus and let us most especially pray for our doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers including chaplains---all of whom are true heroes among us.

I am also grateful to all those who are in parish ministry doing what they can to be the presence of Christ in this difficult time, know that they, as I do, continue to pray for you and ask for your prayers.

On a very practical note, our parish communities have taken a huge financial loss while we are in this time of “social distancing.”  If you are able, I ask that you be mindful good servants and financially help your parish.
